Changing diaper before or after feeding?

So I've been reading that it's good to change diaper after feeding so that the baby wakes up for a little bit before being put down to sleep to learn how to "self soothe". I've been changing before feedings unless he obviously needs to be changed after as well. Just trying to figure out which would work better for my 2 week old. He obviously freaks out once he's awake plus immediately being changed and then having to hear that wonderful shrieking scream until I'm able to put the bottle in his mouth. Looking for others suggestions!

I don't work on self soothing until baby is older. Others might have different opinions but I don't think it's worth it at this age.

I do diaper changes before feeds overnight.

I prefer before because if my daughter goes to sleep, I'd rather her stay asleep. It's so hard to get her to sleep and I just really want to make sure she's getting enough (as well as myself). Also, we've had incidents where she'll pee or poo while changing her after feedings.

@malina808,

same here! She would always poop & pee while changing her. I decided to change her before.

Before to wake them up enough to eat.

Agree with all PPs for all the same reasons.

my son poops almost every time he eats so I always change after. Ideally it's when I switch between breasts but sometimes that results in 2 diaper changes

I usually have to change before and after! If he doesn't have a poopy nappy prior then I just carry on and feed him but 90% of the time he poops whilst feeding so always have to change after. Am lucky if he doesn't and I can just put him straight down haha!

I usually change in the middle. Unless it's poo then I change first. I think changing in the middle makes my lo wake up just enough to finish his feeding. My husband though changes before.

@Laura3209,

This is what we do. It helps her eat larger amounts instead of wanting to snack all day.

Ive always done it before...there have been a few times I forgot and did it after and it just causes my LO hiccups from laying flat after a feeding :)

I do either or depending on how the diaper is. If it's s lot I'll change him before it's not a lot I'll wait, if it's a bowel movement I'll change him right away.

I change before the feeding
