When Missing Loved Ones Becomes a Lifestyle

I grew up missing people. My father was a company man — a corporate nomad — so when it came time to move again, we packed upwardly and went where the career opportunities led him.

The only place he ever declined to movement was Utah. That's because no one in their right listen agrees to move to Utah. (Hey, no offense.)

Growing upwards, I missed friends, neighbors, and classmates beyond six states. Relationships were temporary. Living hundreds of miles from relatives, we visited them once or twice a year. For 7 years, my dad worked second shift so he could climb that corporate ladder; often I missed him, also.

When I attended college, naturally it was out-of-state. Then, I landed a corporate job much similar his and continued the nomadic lifestyle of corporate relocations and missing people.

In one case I became a parent, however, I sought to ensure that my own girl didn't abound upwards missing people she loved. I wanted to give her the gift of beingness "from" somewhere. I wanted to give her the souvenir of non continually feeling loss or separation from all that was familiar.

Nosotros now live a stone's throw from my parents and other family. Corporate nomads eventually find their oasis, and it's rarely at the top of the organizational ladder.

The songs that touched my heart after losing loved ones may not fifty-fifty accept been ones like this, simply ones that we used to sing together or had other meanings. Time does heal the initial pain of losing loved ones, difficult as that is to believe when we kickoff lose loved ones.

Equally to your daughter, having a abode base and long-lasting friendships, she is fortunate. Some families have no option in the matter. I am thinking of war machine families, those who serve every bit diplomats, etc.

I never forgot, nor stopped loving my starting time girlfriend. Nosotros were together for six brilliant years. She couldn't survive a centre assault 7 years ago when she was all alone at home.
